Meet Our STARS
At The Shelter Group, our core values – STARS – are more than just words on a page. The STARS principles guide our interactions with co-workers, residents and business partners, influence the way that we do our jobs and inspire us to deliver exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
Meet our Shelter STARS below and read their stories.
Charlie Rout – Maintenance Supervisor of the Year
Charlie Rout has been with The Shelter Group for almost 30 years and during that time he has given new meaning to the word “collaboration.” His attitude is infectious and he is constantly motivating those around him to do better. He has served as a mentor to fellow associates and is a “Charlie” of all trades. Everyone knows they can always count on Charlie whether they need an extra hand, assistance on a property, or help with a project. And he always does it with a smile on his face. Charlie, our Maintenance Supervisor of the Year is a terrific role model who lives our STARS values each day!
Patricia Moats – Property Manager of the Year
Prior to joining the Shelter Team in August of 2007, Patricia was employed as a Customer Service Supervisor and Office Administrator. While she had never worked in Property Management, we recognized her potential as well as her commitment to the STARS core values. She began her Shelter Career as the Assistant Property Manager at College Parkway Place, and was then promoted to Property Manager at one of our senior communities, Park View at Furnace Branch. In November of 2011 she returned to College Parkway Place, taking on the challenge as Property Manager. Personal effort and commitment are second nature to her. She has developed a positive working environment and is always willing to assist her sister properties when needed. Patricia never misses a deadline and always plans ahead. She has a knack for providing a variety of Resident Services that are always well received by the community. And she does all this while still meeting ownership goals and juggling all of the other needs of the property. We are thrilled to have Patricia Moats as Property Manager of the Year. She is a true Shelter STAR!
Neely Kimmons – Shelter Development Star of the Year
Neely Kimmons is a shining example of a Shelter Star! Since 2007 Neely has worked with our Brightview and Shelter Development Teams to facilitate countless finance applications and loan closings, all resulting in the construction and preservation of much needed quality housing for seniors and families.
A typical “day-in-the-life” for Neely could include (1) working with surveyors and title companies to respond to a lender’s request, (2) coordinating payment and performance bonds from general contractors and their insurance companies to support a transaction about to close and begin construction, (3) serving as the primary liaison preparing due diligence for our investors and lenders and more! For some, this diversity of tasks and wide array of “customers” could prove daunting, but not for Neely. To the contrary, Neely’s work ethic, attention to detail and responsiveness has rendered her as a “go to” member of the team with both internal associates and external customers/consultants/partners. Neely adds value on every transaction by working to understand the deal parameters, checking information carefully to make sure it comports to the deal and leveraging her co-workers and teammates.
Needless to say, Neely embodies our STARS core values in her every day actions and we are delighted to recognize her accomplishments!
