Jeffrey K. Hettleman is a Partner and Executive Vice President of The Shelter Group. Mr. Hettleman joined the company in 1994. Shelter develops, owns and manages multifamily and senior living communities in the eastern region of the country. Mr. Hettleman helps lead the Company’s affordable housing business and capital relationships and has oversight responsibility for the Company’s owned multifamily assets. Prior to joining Shelter, Mr. Hettleman was an attorney at the law firm of Piper & Marbury in Baltimore, Maryland where he specialized in structuring and closing real estate and corporate transactions.
Mr. Hettleman is a past-President of the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition and currently serves on its Board of Directors. He serves on the board of the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association and is a member of the Multifamily Committee and Housing Credit Group (Chair in 2012) of the National Association of Homebuilders. Mr. Hettleman is a member of the Board of the Journey Home, responsible for implementation of Baltimore City’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness and previously served as a member of the Governor's Housing Policy Commission and the State of Maryland’s Task Force on Senior Living in Urban Communities. He is on the Board and immediate past President of the Board of AFYA Baltimore Inc. (which runs the AFYA and Tunbridge charter schools in Baltimore City). He is a graduate of the Leadership Program of the Greater Baltimore Committee and is involved in various other community activities. Mr. Hettleman holds a BA in political science from Haverford College and a JD from the Yale Law School.
